John Huxtable started Huxtable Insurance and Real Estate in 1922. He operated out of his home until 1947 when Leroy Huxtable went into business with him. In 1947, they moved into the office space above Yordys Hardware. In 1952, the Litchfield agency was purchased and the office was moved into a small building now occupied by Past Times restuarant. John Huxtable died in 1959 and the agency was taken over by Leroy Huxtable. In 1969, the Flanagan State Bank building was purchased. Some remodeling was done and in 1971 the Agency moved to its new location. In 1979 Brian M. McSherry joined the agency. In 1981 the Agency was incorporated and Leroy Huxtable retired. Brian McSherry continued to operate the Agency. In 1995 Bryce Carey, owner of Bastian Agency Inc, and Brian McSherry joined into an agreement forming BMC Insurance Group L.L.C. This agreement allows the two agencies to combine products and knowledge of the industry to our clients.
